Insider’s View: Professors’ Perspectives on Online Engagement

Session Description
Using interviews with faculty members and a literature review on successfully engaging online students, we will reveal faculty perspectives regarding online student engagement, as well as concerns faculty have with the task of engaging students online yet still having to overcome various barriers to that task. We will compare perspectives offered by faculty members to existing research and our own experiences as students and instructors. This session will include opportunities for self-reflection as those participating in the conference are able to reflect on their own learning and teaching experiences, particularly in an online environment. Participants will be able to identify barriers to engaging students online, learn strategies for overcoming barriers, and see where further research would be beneficial.
