Session Description
Social media has been touted as a cost effective way for businesses (including colleges and Universities) to generate word-of-mouth referrals, create branding, and maintain customer relationships. Facebook, arguably one of the most popular social media platforms, allows organizations to have fan pages. A Facebook fan page can help establishments increase exposure, reach their target audience, and build brand loyalty. This presentation looks at how an online university used Facebook to increase fan page membership and brand awareness. Membership of this online university’s Facebook fan page increased by 200% in a month period. This presentation will examine the specific content and viral marketing techniques used by the University and analyze whether these efforts affected student enrollment during the viral marketing campaign.
